What Were The Conditions Before The War?

If the events leading up to the Civil War and the war itself, the just before might have a shot at the climax. The reason is that this time was when everything was happening. First of all, the Union (North) had all of the soldiers and commanders and the President, and the Confederacy (South) had nothing. They had to build everything from scratch, even their capitol. Even though the Confederacy had almost double the land of the Union, they only had 1/3 of the soldiers. They say it takes two visiting soldiers to take out one home soldier, but that would still give the Union an advantage. Plus, with sending all of the farmers, miners, and other necessary workers to the battlefield put the Confederacy even worse off, (Robertson Jr., 35). The confederacy did start off winning the war, though. However, one bad general screwed it all up.
